2-headed aquarium pump

As the saying goes, two heads are better than one.

The same holds true for Neptune Systems DŌS – Dosing and Fluid Metering System. This innovative 2-head design allows for multi-purpose functionality of some of our most challenging tasks in aquarium upkeep such as dosing and changing the water.

This dynamic system works with an Apex Controller to perform a number of actions:

  • 2-part dosing (for Calcium and Alkalinity)
  • micro and macro dosing for trace elements
  • delivery of liquid foods and supplements
  • automatic water changes

The magic of the DŌS (coupled with the Apex Fusion interface) is that it can dispense doses, based on your parameters, by creating a release interval that delivers a precise volume of fluid at the slowest speed necessary. Even for micro-dosing of a very a specific element, the DŌS has the ability to control the pump all the way down to a 0.1 ml release! It can literally release one drop at a time!

Changing the water in our tank is an unpopular best practice that we all know has to be done. Once again, you can set the parameters for the amount of water, the length of time, and when you want it all to process, and the DŌS automates a continuous water change that happens right before your eyes! No buckets. No mess. Mind blown.

I would be remiss not to mention the vast amount of engineering that’s gone into the DŌS unit itself, including its motor, tubing, leak proof fittings, and the replacement pump head. The engineers even designed the enclosure around the DŌS to dampen the noise making it one of the quietest running pumps on the market.

The DŌS is made with an industrial grade “stepper motor” pump which immediately sets it apart from other pumps. This brush-less configuration delivers precise functionality and calibration for the life of the product. Neptune Systems even boasts the DŌS has an estimated 5000 hour lifespan, 12x longer than the ‘other guys’.

The variable speed options are a standard feature that pairs with the Apex Fusion wizard maintaining accuracy of all dosing, at any speed. Even the gearing and drive mechanisms are built to last.

The larger diameter tubing on the DŌS that feeds the liquid can handle 4x the flow of the most common pumps. Larger diameter fittings means that your pump won’t work as hard and won’t clog! Leak proof, sure-fit compression fittings also seal the deal (no pun intended) ensuring that fluids and air do not escape.

Wear and tear are unavoidable with any item after years of use and Neptune Systems recognizes this and recommends changing out the entire pump head rather than its individual pieces and parts. They’ve made it simple to literally snap a new DŌS pump into place with no screws, no loose pieces, and no questions about which tubing is the right tubing. The DŌS replacement head will cost you only $29.95.

The DŌS connects to an Apex controller via an AquaBus cable. The Apex Fusion interface I’ve mentioned allows you to configure and control your dosing via your phone, tablet, or computer. The DŌS also has an accessory port that will connect it with future Neptune Systems accessories; and their new technologies never disappoint!
