Over the past few years, the MindStream water quality monitor has been somewhat of an urban legend in the reef hobby. Think something like the fountain of youth with a Loch Ness Monster swimming around in it and you kind of get the picture. Suffice it to say that there are many of us in the reef hobby that are both hopeful and skeptical that this device will even work. This week we sought to sit down with one of the people behind this product, Jim Clark of Step Ahead Innovations to get a first hand look at how the Mindstream works, how it reports, and all the testing and calibration it is going through before coming to market.

In part 1 of the demo, we discuss Jim’s background in aquariums and just why he felt there was a need for it.  We also look at all the rigorous testing the MindStream is going through before it comes to market here and is debuted at MACNA 2015 in Washington DC.

Stay tune to ReefNation.com for parts 2 and 3 coming shortly.  In future segments we will discuss the wifi capabilities, app, and what the cloud application will track.
